Under the Milky Way es una canción de la banda australiana The Church, lanzada como el sencillo principal de su quinto álbum de estudio, Starfish, en 1988. La canción fue coescrita por el cantante principal y bajista Steve Kilbey y su entonces novia Karin Jansson (de Curious (Yellow)). Según Kilbey, la canción se escribió bastante rápido, impulsada por la necesidad de completar el álbum. Kilbey mencionó que usó una máquina de batería, desarrolló ... algunas secuencias de acordes y, inspirado por el sonido, escribió la letra, que evoca imágenes nocturnas y reflexiones introspectivas. La frase Under the Milky Way se refiere tanto a un sentimiento de contemplación bajo la Vía Láctea como puede interpretarse como un juego de palabras con milquetoast, indicando una naturaleza suave o tímida.
