Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas was written by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane for the movie Meet Me in St. Louis in 1944, where it was performed by Judy Garland. In its original form, the song had more melancholic lyrics that were altered to a more upbeat version at the request of Garland and Tom Drake, her co-star in the movie.
