I Heard It Through the Grapevine was composed by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong in the late 1960s. Initially recorded by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, it was Marvin Gayes version in 1968 that brought it fame. The song talks about the pain and betrayal felt upon finding out from others, rather than directly, that ones love is being unfaithful.
