Hello Sweet April, We are coming out of fall I’m reminded there’s not a trace of anyone and its pointless to call, you I am going to stay in bed and let my brain catch up enough to switch on the lights I am catching my breath, I was running after you in my dreams all night
So I’ll plant six lilies in the sun I’ll let the neighbors talk because it’s so much fun to laugh at us Next to the garden we planned before the storm White picket cages can’t keep the locusts from starting to swarm
I pour my morning coffee by a window where I see the future growing old I take out an ad for a purpose in the paper next to the comics and obituaries The dust has caked on these windows like Tears Birds are singing, and the coffee hasn’t tasted the same in years
I come home that evening, I guess I can call it that when there’s nowhere to go I stare at a picture hung on the wall where the window should be I take all the curtains down so you can find your way home Give safe harbor to passing ships the drown them in the sea
Write a letter once in a while Send a postcard so I won’t forget how to smile It will get cold again and the days will start to run So, I’ll plant six lilies in the sun
