Lyrics of
Valerie

Valerie was originally written and performed by the British band The Zutons, featuring on their 2006 album Tired of Hanging Around. Its popularity soared when Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson produced a cover version, which was released in 2007 on Ronsons album Version. The inspiration for the song came from Valerie Star, a friend of the band, and the lyrics talk about missing someone and reflecting on the times spent with that person.

Well sometimes I go out by myself and I look across the water
And I think of all the things, what you're doing and in my head I paint a picture

'Cos since I've come on home, well my body's been a mess
And I've missed your ginger hair and the way you like to dress
Won't you come on over, stop making a fool out of me
Why don't you come on over Va-a-lerie, Valerie-e-ee, Va-a-alerie, Valerie-e-ee

Did you have to go to jail, put your house on up for sale, did you get a good lawyer
I hope you didn't catch a tan, I hope you found the right man who'll fix it for ya
Are you shoppin' anywhere, changed the colour of your hair, are you busy?
And did you have to pay that fine you was dodging all the time are you still dizzy
still dizzy?

'Cos since I've come on home, well my body's been a mess
And I've missed your ginger hair and the way you like to dress
Won't you come on over, stop making a fool out of me
Why don't you come on over Va-a-lerie, Valerie-e-ee, Va-a-alerie, Valerie-e-ee

Well sometimes I go out by myself and I look across the water
And I think of all the things, what you're doing and in my head I paint a picture

'Cos since I've come on home, well my body's been a mess
And I've missed your ginger hair and the way you like to dress
Won't you come on over, stop making a fool out of me
Why don't you come on over Va-a-lerie, Valerie-e-ee, Va-a-alerie, Valerie-e-ee

mmm Valerie Valerie-e-ee
Valerie-E-ee, Va-A-le-rieee
Why dont you come on over Valerie
