Lyrics of
Jessies Girl

Jessies Girl was written by Rick Springfield, inspired by a real-life experience of longing for a woman who was dating a friend of his. While Jessie is used in the song, the friends actual name was Gary. The song expresses Springfields lament over wanting his friends girlfriend and the frustration of not being able to have what he desires. Released in 1981, it quickly became a hit, helping to solidify Springfields career.

Jessie is a friend
Yeah I know, he's been a good friend of mine
But lately somethin's changed, it ain't hard to define
Jessie's got himself a girl, and I wanna make her mine

And she's watchin' him with those eyes
And she's lovin' him with that body, I just know it
And he's holdin' her in his arms, late late at night
Y'know, I wish that I had Jessie's girl
I wish that I had Jessie's girl
Where can I find a woman like that?

I'll play along with the charade
There doesn't seem to be a reason to change
Y'know I feel so dirty when they start talkin' cute
I wanna tell her that I love her but the point is prob'ly moot

And she's watchin' him with those eyes
And she's lovin' him with that body, I just know it
And he's holdin' her in his arms, late late at night
Y'know, I wish that I had Jessie's girl
I wish that I had Jessie's girl
Where can I find a woman like that?

And I'm lookin' in the mirror all the time
Wond'rin' what she don't see in me
Yeah I've been funny I've been cool with the lines
Ain't that the way love's supposed to be?

Tell me, where can I find a woman like that?

And she's watchin' him with those eyes
And she's lovin' him with that body, I just know it
And he's holdin' her in his arms, late late at night
Y'know, I wish that I had Jessie's girl
I wish that I had Jessie's girl
Where can I find a woman like that?
