Lyrics of
Go Rest High On That Mountain

Go Rest High on That Mountain was written by Vince Gill in memory of Keith Whitley, a country singer who died in 1989, and was later also dedicated to the memory of other loved ones Gill had lost. Gill began writing the song after Whitleys death but was only able to finish it after the death of his own brother in 1993. The song reflects themes of mourning, loss, and hope after death.

I know your life - on earth was troubled,
And only you - could know the pain.
You weren't afraid - to face the devil,
You're no stranger - to the rain.

Go rest high - on that mountain.
Son, your work - on earth is done,
Go to heaven - a-shoutin'!
Love for the Father - and the son.

Oh how we cried - the day you left us.
We gathered round - your grave to grieve.
I wish I could see - the angel's faces,
When they hear - your sweet voice sing.

Go rest high - on that mountain.
Son, your work - on earth is done,
Go to heaven - a-shoutin'!
Love for the Father - and the son.
