Lyrics of
Georgia On My Mind

Georgia on My Mind was written in 1930 by Hoagy Carmichael (music) and Stuart Gorrell (lyrics). Though often associated with Ray Charles, especially for his iconic 1960 recording, the song was originally written about Hoagy Carmichaels sister, Georgia. However, over time, it has come to be a symbol for the state of Georgia, USA, and was designated as the state song in 1979.

Georgia, Georgia, the whole day through
Just an old sweet song keeps Georgia on my mind
Georgia, Georgia, A song of you
Comes sweet and clear as moonlight through the pines

Other arms reach out to me
Other Eyes smile, tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you

Georgia, Georgia, no peace do I Find
Just an old sweet song keeps Georgia on my mind

Other arms reach out to me
Other Eyes smile, tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you

Georgia, Georgia, no peace do I Find
Just an old sweet song keeps Georgia on my mind
Just and old sweet song keeps
Georgia on my mind
