Lyrics of
Armadillo

You’ve got a better chance of seeing Big Foot than a live armadillo
I think they only exist in some folk’s minds
I’ve seen ‘em crushed out on the highway and stuffed at the local gift shop
But a live armadillo is something I can’t find

I moved down to Texas about ten years ago
And got a book of all the things that I should see
They have an aardvark with a helmet that they call an armadillo
So I figured that’s the Texas sight for me

I’ve heard ‘em called an armored possum or even possum on the half shell
“Texas Speed Bump” when you hit ‘em with your car
There’s a sign out on the highway that says Armadillo Crossing
But I don’t think any armadillos have made it that far!

You’ve got a better chance of seeing Big Foot than a live armadillo
I think they only exist in some folk’s minds
I’ve seen ‘em crushed out on the highway and stuffed at the local gift shop
But a live armadillo is something I can’t find

I saw a roadrunner in Fort Stockton chasing bugs down the highway
And wild pigs down in Boerne digging up the ground
There was a lizard in Terlingua that was longer than my arm
But there was no armadillos to be found

I’ve had possums at my back door and a fox drink from my pool
And a coyote even walked through my backyard
I’ve seen snakes and lizards, skunks and pigs and a hundred other things
So why is a live armadillo so damned hard!

You’ve got a better chance of seeing Big Foot than a live armadillo
I think they only exist in some folk’s minds
I’ve seen ‘em crushed out on the highway and stuffed at the local gift shop
But a live armadillo is something I can’t find

I went down to Fort Worth and walked through the Stockyards
Stopped in the gift shop of one of those country bars
There for $89.95 I could buy me a stuffed armadillo
Laying on his back and drinking a cold Lone Star

You’ve got a better chance of seeing Big Foot than a live armadillo
I think they only exist in some folk’s minds
I’ve seen ‘em crushed out on the highway and stuffed at the local gift shop
But a live armadillo is something I can’t find

I’ve seen ‘em crushed out on the highway and stuffed at the local gift shop
But a live armadillo is something I can’t find
