Introduction: Am E/G# C/G F Dm C Dm E
Am E
In mother earth&rsquo s garden a flower was growing,
C/G F
her blossoms as red as the love in her soul.
Dm C
But along came a daisy with heart of fool&rsquo s gold
Dm E
and petals as white as a lie could be told.
Am E
The daisy was parched, he begged her for drink,
C/G F
he wept and he groveled right there at her feet.
Dm C
The flower obliged with a softhearted grin,
Dm E
she bent her own stem to give nectar to him.
Am E
If only she noticed how deeply he drank
C/G F
the daisy grew taller while she only sank.
Dm C
He stretched out his leaves and he beckoned the shade,
Dm E
a cover so thick no light could penetrate.
Am E
She pleaded with him, he ignored all her cries,
C/G F
he stood like a tower, his head held so high.
Dm C
The flower was stunned, she was spurned and betrayed,
Dm E
alone in the darkness she flew in rage.
Am E
She hardened her skin and grew out her thorns,
C/G F
so no other daisy could hurt her anymore.
Dm C
But she kept her blush red to this very day,
Dm E
so she&rsquo d never forget all the love she misplaced.

So, the next time you see daisies in bloom,
C/G F
don&rsquo t stop for a gander, just keep walking through.
Dm C
But the next time you see a rose of red stain,
Dm E
just know that her beauty was not without pain.
