Over the Rainbow was composed by Harold Arlen with lyrics by E.Y. Harburg for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song that year and became one of the most enduring standards of the 20th century, immortalized by Judy Garlands performance as Dorothy.
