Somewhere Over the Rainbow was composed by Harold Arlen with lyrics by E.Y. Harburg for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. It was famously performed by Judy Garland, who played Dorothy in the movie. The song expresses a hopeful longing for a better world over the rainbow. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and has become one of the most enduring classics in music history.
