O Holy Night

O Holy Night was composed in 1847 by Adolphe Adam to the French poem Minuit, chrétiens (Midnight, Christians) by Placide Cappeau. Cappeau, a wine merchant and poet, had been asked by his towns priest to write a Christmas poem. Inspired, Cappeau imagined the scene of Jesus birth while writing Minuit, chrétiens. Adam then set the poem to music, creating one of the most beloved and widely sung Christmas songs in the Western world.
