My Girl was written by Smokey Robinson and Ronald White, both members of The Miracles. The song was specifically created for the Temptations, another Motown group, in response to Mary Wells success with My Guy. It became the Temptations first number one hit, marking its place in soul music and the Motown movement of the 60s.
