Mustang Sally

Mustang Sally was written and first recorded by Mack Rice in 1965. It was later made famous by Wilson Pickett in the following year. The song was inspired by a joke between Rice and his friend Della Reese, who was contemplating purchasing a Ford Mustang. Rice wrote the song teasing her about not having gasoline money. The song eventually became an anthem for the U.S civil rights movement.
