Nelson Sargento was a revered Brazilian samba musician, born in Rio de Janeiro. He was a composer, singer, and one of the flag bearers of the traditional samba culture. A member of the famous samba school Mangueira, his music and lyrics embodied the spirit of Rios samba scene, and he was celebrated for his contributions to Brazilian music until his death.
