Anthony "DJ Unk" Platt, whose worldwide success includes smash hits like "Walk It Out" and "2 Step", is an Atlanta native who began spinning records in 1998 at the age of seventeen. After meeting DJ Jelly and DJ Montay Unk joined their entourage, the Southern Style DJs, and performed for high school parties, proms, pep rallies, and other events around the state of Georgia. In 2000 Big Oomp signed Unk to his label, Big Oomp Records. Unk's debut a ... lbum Beat'n Down Yo Block! sold more than two-hundred thousand copies and soared to number 21 on Billboard's top R&B albums of 2006. "Walk It Out" and "2 Step" became international phenomenons that rocked the hip-hop, R&B, and rap charts for multiple weeks. "Walk It Out" was certified Platinum and peaked at number 2 while "2 Step" was certified Gold. The success of Beat'n Down Yo Block! scored Unk a collaboration with Three 6 Mafia on their 2008 hit "I'd Rather" which led to additional collaborations with superstars like T-Pain, Soulja Boy, Sean Kingston, E40, Jim Jones, Ray J, and Andre 3000. In November 2008, Unk released his sophomore album, 2econd Season, and created a track titled "In Yo Face" that was featured on the NBA 2k9 video game trailer. In August 2009, Unk suffered a heart attack, which led him to some pretty drastic changes in his life. In a March 2010 interview with XXL, Unk shared more about the stress that led up to his heart attack: "It comes from not exercising, from not eating right. Basically man, I work hard everyday. Everything I do every day I try to make something happen in my household. I constantly be on the go, I constantly be on airplanes, in different weather and you know it just took a toll on me. It was stress...I removed all the [negative stuff]. I'm blessed to be as booked for concerts and hosting and everything. I enjoy myself but I've calmed down on the drinking, on the beer, the smoking...I substituted that with fruits, base foods like good salmon, just healthy things. Whenever I go out, I still enjoy myself like before. I have a drink or two before I hit the stage. I just don't go ham like I did before; everything was so fast. Instead of praying once like before, I go twice a day...It's a blessing to be here. I've been on the road since 2006 and at this age--I'm 28 right now--a lot of people don't get to see 28. A lot of people don't get to see 15, 10, some babies. It's a blessing for me to celebrate [another] birthday. I had some medical issues going on from not eating the right food and that just come from when I stopped taking care of myself. I got to get healthy not just for my sake, but also for my kids and for my wife." Since recovering from his heart attack, Unk has signed with a new label Nimbus Universal which has its distribution through the executive music group Fontana brand. Nimbus Universal, LLC CEO Robert Thorn III stated "We are happy to have Dj Unk and his "Itsago" brand on board with us and we will be aiming for success with our future releases". Dj Unk has plans to come back to a trending lane in late 2012 and is hard at work on brand new tracks for his 2013 release REVAMP. In the meantime, Unk has nothing but positive thoughts for the future: "I love my job. I love my beginning. I don't know what my end is. But I love DJ-ing. I always love to rock a crowd. But I also love being on the stage and being right there with the fans. I'd love to expand my career as far as learning production. So it's all a learning experience for me. I don't want to drop nothing I'm doing. I want to learn more and continue pushing forward." See more [+]
